Welcome

Hello world!

Welcome to my corner of the world wide web - a place where endpoint management, Modern Work, and a healthy dose of curiosity collide. My name is Jesper Nielsen, I am a Technology Provocateur, 9-time Microsoft MVP (2016-2024), and an IT professional who has been rambling within this industry for over 25 years.

I have collected a wide range of experiences across enterprise-level end-user computing, spanning governmental, financial, healthcare, and enterprise organizations. Although my primary focus has always been Windows management and end-user experience, I have a deep passion for everything within reach of end-user devices - from Endpoint Security and Baselining to Cloud PC and Zero Trust.

Microsoft 365 Endpoint Management topics will, obviously, be the main topics of my blog, powered by my professional ramblings, including a mixture of lifehack and other professional experiences.

Expect posts covering Windows 365, Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, Endpoint Security, Microsoft Copilot Cowork, and the ever-changing world of Modern Management. I also explore topics like AI Actions in Windows 11, GitHub Copilot, personal branding, public speaking, and how to use AI tools to enhance your workflow - including Vibe Coding - turning words into code.

What drives me

My philosophy is simple: learn it to teach it. Throughout my career as Solution Architect and Principal Architect, I have designed and implemented Windows and Workplace solutions for organizations of all sizes.

My blog posts are fueled by my daily work and challenges, but they also reflect my journey to learn new topics and better understand them. What is better than sharing my experience while doing so? It helps me learn, and by sharing my findings - and failures - I hope to inspire you and help your journey move forward.

Along the way, I have learned that sharing knowledge is just as important as acquiring it. Highly inspired by Scott Hanselman’s  post from 2006, Do they deserve the gift of your keystrokes? . While the post is nearly 20 years old, its message resonates even stronger today - in an age of AI-assisted everything, intentionally sharing knowledge matters more than ever. This blog is my way of saving keystrokes and giving back to the community that has given me so much.

The journey so far

Building a blog and navigating topics is hard work - this is not a fast task, people. What began as a simple WordPress site in Azure has evolved through multiple iterations, each teaching me something new about web development, content creation, and staying curious.

Every day is an opportunity to create a living masterpiece

Finding Mastery Founder, Dr. Michael Gervais

The learning curve has been relentless - from mastering Hugo and static site generation, to understanding Git workflows, to embracing AI-assisted development. I have learned to use tools like GitHub Copilot for coding and Microsoft Copilot for writing, exploring how AI collaboration can bring ideas to life faster than ever before. This journey has reinforced my belief that staying curious and continuously learning new skills is essential in our industry.

The rebuild: I moved away from WordPress and rebuilt the whole site using a static website framework, now running as an Azure Static Web App  powered by Hugo .

Moving on

The journey continues, and I invite you to follow along. Explore my Series for curated post collections, browse the Blog for all my ramblings, or follow along via RSS. Curious about how this site came to be? Read the Building my blog series.

And if you want to know more about the person behind the keyboard, head over to the about page.

I am glad you are here - now let’s nerd out together.

Community

Community rocks

I actively engage in communities, meetups, and conferences - always ready to contribute as a speaker, participant, or supporter. I believe strongly in the power of community. I am a founding member of Windows Management User Group Denmark  (WMUG.dk) and part of the team running Workplace Ninjas User Group Denmark .

The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.

Blogging

Did you know that 90% of new bloggers struggle with writing introductions?

Count me in. But blogging remains a powerful platform to share ideas and, more importantly, to save my keystrokes.

I was inspired by Scott Hanselman ’s 2006 post, Do they deserve the gift of your keystrokes? . The idea stuck with me, and I finally started writing things down. These are my posts.

Learning to crawl when everyone else is running

by Jesper Nielsen

Everyone is running with AI. But what happens when you skip the part where you learn to crawl?

Over the past year, I have shared posts about Vibe Coding and using AI as a superpower. I have been written about building instruction files for GitHub Copilot and creating Microsoft Copilot Cowork skills. All of those posts share a common theme: AI is most powerful when you teach it how you work.

But here is the thing nobody tells you - you cannot teach AI how you work until you understand how it defaults. And understanding the defaults means slowing down enough to notice them.

Devices are not a commodity - they are a strategy

by Jesper Nielsen

What if the biggest risk to your endpoint strategy is not a security breach - but the device itself?

Over the past months - for years really - I have been talking about Windows in the cloud with customers, partners, and public sector organizations. This post is primarily about Windows devices - and Windows 11 specifically - because that is where the vast majority of enterprise endpoints sit. macOS has its place in the mix, and I will touch on that. But the strategic pressures I am seeing - pricing, supply chain, architecture shifts, provisioning debt - are most acute in the Windows ecosystem.

Exploring Microsoft Copilot Cowork skills management

by Jesper Nielsen

What if the skills you built are not as good as you think they are?

I built four custom skills in Microsoft Copilot Cowork before it occurred to me to ask whether any of them were actually good. They worked, mostly, so I assumed they were fine. Then I asked Cowork to score them, and the numbers told a more honest story than my own reading ever could. In my Exploring Microsoft Copilot Cowork skills post, I covered how to build skills - the format, the structure, the journey from GitHub Copilot instruction files to portable Agent Skills. This post picks up where that one left off. You have created your skills. Now what?

Learning to maintain a healthy speaker profile

by Jesper Nielsen

When was the last time you looked at your speaker profile and thought, “This actually represents who I am”?

For years, I have been speaking at conferences, user groups, and community events. I submitted session proposals, stepped on stage, refined my talks, and moved on to the next one. But somewhere along the way, I neglected the one place where my speaking identity lives publicly - my Sessionize profile. If you have read my earlier posts about exploring public speaking and submitting session proposals, this post is the natural next step: what happens after you build the habit of speaking and submitting - and how do you keep your speaker profile alive and honest.
